Low Carb Snacks

South Beach Diet Chocolate Peanut Butter BarsIt should start to become obvious that The Glucoholic likes chocolate and peanut butter. Just as he thought he was on the precipice of deeper addiction the South Beach Diet Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars came along and provided rock bottom for him - a scared straight interaction of sorts. After the positive South Beach Diet Peanut Butter Cookies experience he thought surely this new chocolate peanut butter treat would be delicious. He could not have been further from the truth.

Imagine, if you will, standing in front a sheet of wax paper. You’ve just melted the darkest, most bitter chocolate you could find in the grocer’s half price bin. You take your favorite candy brush and lay down a thin layer on the wax paper. You break out the canned peanuts and take out the three smallest nuts you can find. You’re feeling a little aggression so you put the three peanuts in a dish towel and bang on them with a hammer until they resemble sand. You head out to the garage and find some scrap wood, which you proceed to sand with an orbital sander until a sizable pile of sawdust is at your feet. You grab a handful and rush back to your chocolate before it cools. You grab a mixing bowl, throw in the nut particles and the sawdust. To this you add your favorite glue. Mix it all up and smear it across the top of the chocolate. Let the concoction cool. You’ve reproduced the South Beach Diet Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars!

Low Carb Snacks

Glucerna Chocolate Peanut Mini-Snack BarSometimes you just want a little something to get you by. Glucerna Chocolate Peanut Mini-Snack Bars are a good solution. With a taste that reminds you somewhat of the Atkins Chocolate Peanut Butter bar this mini-bar provides a powerful between-meal option. It’s small, but it’s hearty and chewy and leaves you feeling like you actually ate more than you did.

At 80 calories and 4 grams of sugar these mini-bars are not a sugar free snack, but they do provide quite a bit of nutritional value for their relatively small mass. Each bar contains 2.5 grams of fat, of which 1 gram is saturated. You’ll also get 0mg of cholesterol, 60mg of sodium, 50mg of potassium, and 4 grams of protein. A total of 12 grams of carbohydrates includes 3 grams of sugar alcohol. Also included is an average of about ten percent of the recommended daily allowance of about 25 vitamins and minerals. Not bad - and it taste’s pretty good to boot!
