Low Carb Foods, Sugar Free Foods
After our experience with the chocolate peanut butter bars we were a little hesitant to jump back on the South Beach train. This one looked too good to pass up though, and boy are we glad we didn’t pass it up. The South Beach Diet group at Kraft Foods has really outdone themselves on this one. Everything you need for an awesome meal is in this one package!
The Deli Ham & Turkey version of the wrap sandwich kit contains two wheat tortillas, Oscar Mayer ham and turkey, Kraft low fat cheddar cheese, enough Grey Poupon mustard for two wraps, and a cup of Jell-O Sugar Free Cherry Gelatin. You might notice that most of the components of this meal kit are Kraft products, and we think they’ve done a fantastic job of collecting them into one really simple, tasty solution.
Speaking of taste - wow! Where to start? The wraps are simple to make. If you’re in to mustard then cover the tortillas, then add the deli meats, then the cheese, and your wrap is complete. The wheat tortillas are obviously more bland than a flour tortilla would be, but they are far from distracting, especially with the mustard on board. These wraps can be eaten cold as well as heated in the microwave for about 25 seconds. We tried cold and warm wraps and both are quite tasty. Warming them seems to make the meal more hearty and filling. Don’t forget to follow up with the gelatin cup for dessert!
Serving size is one kit - how convenient. The kit contains 220 calories, 10 grams of fat, 40mg of cholesterol, 960mg of sodium, and 22 grams of protein. The total of 23 grams of carbohydrate seems a little high until you account for the 15 grams of fiber, which would give you about 8 grams of digestible carbohydrate. The ham and turkey wrap also contains 25 percent of the recommended daily allowance of calcium. Though these kits are a little high in fat, cholesterol, and sodium, the taste and low carb count make them such an appealing alternative to frozen meals.
