Low Carb Foods

Smart Balance Omega Peanut ButterIt should be obvious by now that The Glucoholic loves peanut butter. Finding an acceptable low sugar option for peanut butter has been a challenge, but we’re glad to share that we think we’ve found the solution – Smart Balance Omega Peanut Butter. This great product looks like real peanut butter, spreads like real peanut butter, and tastes like real peanut butter. Like other natural peanut butters, if it has been on your shelf for a long time some oil might have separated. A quick stir will return this peanut butter to a beautiful creamy texture, just waiting to be enjoyed.

The taste is incredible. It comes in two varieties for those of you who have chosen sides in the “Creamy vs. Crunchy” peanut butter battle, though the “Chunky” variety might be harder to find in stores. Try it however you normally use peanut butter. Our favorite was a classic PB&J made with low sugar jam.

Low Carb Snacks

Reeseā€™s 100 Calorie Peanut Butter Wafer BarsWe all learn lessons every day. Today’s lesson is “read nutrition labels.” Reese’s 100 Calorie Peanut Butter Wafer Bars are a new snack competing in the crowded “100 Calorie” snack market. It seems as if this segment of the snack market has exploded in the past year; but beware – as we found out, low calorie does not mean low sugar.

For a person on a calorie restricted diet only, these wafers would be a delicious snack. They taste great. The wafer is sweet and crunchy, and the addition of the familiar peanut butter and Hershey’s chocolate make this snack absolutely delightful. The taste is exactly what you would expect from a Reese’s product.

Low Carb Foods

South Beach Diet Pepperoni PizzaAfter finding good products in South Beach Diet’s deli wraps and peanut butter cookies The Glucoholic was pleased to find South Beach Diet Pepperoni Pizza at his local grocer. In a crowded market of personal sized frozen pizzas, this pizza is a serious contender for best in show. Of course, it’s real benefit is competitive taste without supplying more carbohydrates than a person should eat in a week!

Regarding taste, this pizza is on par with most other frozen pizzas. The wheat crust is somewhat different, but rather tasty. The sauce, cheese, and pepperoni are comparable to the same ingredients in other frozen pizzas as well. If you like a crispier crust you can heat this pizza in the oven, but whether you prepare it in the oven or the microwave be careful with your first bite because the toppings will be plasma hot.

Balance Carb Well Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar

Low Carb Snacks

Balance Carb Well Chocolate Peanut Butter BarThe low carb segment of the billion dollar energy bar market has really heated up. This means more options than ever for dieters and diabetics alike. Energy bars can be a good between meal snack or emergency meal on the run for those watching their weight or maintaining healthy blood sugars. We recently tested the Balance Carb Well Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar to see how this low carb snack performs. We weren’t disappointed.

The first thing we noticed about this bar is its heft – fifty grams per bar. As soon as you pick it up you’re almost sure you will be less hungry after one of these bars. The first bite actually hints of coconut more than peanut butter, but after several bites you do pick up the slightest hint of roasted peanuts as well. This bar’s taste is not entirely unlike that of the Glucerna Chocolate Peanut Mini-Snack Bar. If that bar leaves you feeling satisfied then the Balance Carb Well Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar will leave you feeling like you had a steak dinner! These bars have a similar texture to most other bars in the low carb segment, which is something we’re getting used to. It’s unlikely that we’ll ever see the day that low carb energy bars have the same texture and sweetness as your average candy bar.
