We just wanted to take some time out of this beautiful morning to say Merry Christmas to all of you loyal readers. We hope each and every one of you has a healthy, happy holiday season.
We also wanted to encourage you to help make the season bright for others by supporting organizations like the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. They could really use our support this year!

Sugar Free Snacks
We know what you’re thinking. Nougie Nutty Chew? Is that made up? It sounds made up. It’s not. Russell Stover Sugar Free Nougie Nutty Chew is a product, and a good one at that. When we came across this jewel we knew we had to review it just for the opportunity to say Nougie Nutty Chew a couple of times. We had no idea what kind of pleasant suprise we were in for. We’ve come to expect good things from the Russell Stover brand, and have always been impressed by the wide variety of sugar free candies they provide. The Nougie Nutty Chew is simply delicious. We would shout it from the mountain tops if our teeth weren’t stuck together with candy.
The packaging tells you all you need to know – it’s got peanuts, caramel, nougat, and chocolate. How could it possibly be anything but spectacular with nougat on board? Seriously, the first thing you notice is that it’s bigger than your average sugar free candy. Unless you’ve got mad candy eating skills, it will probably take you two bites to fully consume this beauty. And what pleasurable consumption it is. The best way to describe the taste would be “a mix of Snickers, Baby Ruth, and 3 Musketeers with more dark chocolate than milk chocolate.” It’s hefty and very satisfying. In the past week we’ve been through two bags. We might need an intervention before this is over.

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks
When The Glucoholic ran across Aquafina FlavorSplash Grape Flavored Water he almost passed it up. Why not? There are too many flavored waters on the market now. What’s one more? How different could it really be? Quite different in fact. We were really pleased with this product. It’s probably the best flavored water we’ve tried to date. The taste is smooth and does not suffer from any of the aftertaste that other products do, especially the ones that contain substandard sweeteners. The grape flavor is stronger and sweeter than most grape flavored waters. Pepsi’s marketing material claims that they use Concorde grapes in the production of this flavor, and we think this was a wise choice. Our only regret while reviewing Aquafina FlavorSplash Grape Flavored Water was that we didn’t pick up all of the FlavorSplash flavors and do one of our “Battle Of” series installments. If the quality of the other flavors is as good as this one then we believe Pepsi has a real winner on their hands.
Nutritionally, there’s not much to report about Aquafina FlavorSplash Grape Flavored Water, which is a good thing. There are 85mg of sodium per 8 ounce serving and that’s it. Pepsi should make note of the overall quality and superb sweetness accomplished by using only Splenda to sweeten this product. We can think of several of their diet soda offerings that could use some of the same engineering. We can’t wait to try the other FlavorSplash flavors.

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks
Hopefully you’ve recovered from Thanksgiving and made it through all the meals without too much damage. We’re pretty sure some of you might be celebrating the holidays with today’s product, Sierra Mist Free Cranberry Splash. Pepsi has decided to bring this special holiday flavor back to store shelves this year, and we’re very happy. It was on the list of products to review last year, but was all gone by the time we got around to it. This year we started looking before Thanksgiving because fool me once, shame on you. Fool me – you can’t get fooled again. Or something like that.
Look out for the carbonation in this one. If you are one of those people that gets hiccups at least five times a day you might want to let this one “breathe” a little. It’s sparkly! Once you get past the Pop Rocks sensation, you get a jolt of something bitter. Is it the aspartame? The cranberry? You can’t quite figure it out, and as you’re about to say “This tastes like cough syrup – oh well, another negative review” you start to sense something changing. Now the taste is transforming itself into something less bitter and more festive. You’re feeling of holiday cheer is increasing with every sip. By the time you’ve nursed it through an entire meal the aftertaste is starting to grow on you. Don’t believe us? Just check out this video blogger’s review of Sierra Mist Free Cranberry Splash. With only 55mg of sodium per eight ounce serving, it’s not bad for you either. If you are in the mood for something different in your sugar free drink consumption this holiday, be sure to give Sierra Mist Free Cranberry Splash a try.
