Battle of the Tava Zero Calorie Sparkling Beverages

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks

Tava Zero Calorie Sparkling BeverageContinuing our short break from sugar free snacks reviews, we’d like to introduce Tava Zero Calorie Sparkling Beverage. The folks at Pepsi have created three interesting flavors that we immediately marched into battle against each other; with you, our loyal readers, coming out the victors.

Tava Zero Calorie Sparkling Beverage has received some recent press because of Pepsi’s decision to market the product in a non-conventional way to a non-conventional soft drink demographic. Hubspot’s Inbound Internet Marketing Blog and The New York Times explain how Pepsi’s advertising consultants helped them craft a plan to market the product using new media instead of traditional outlets. The 35 to 49 year olds in the product’s target demographic are currently underserved by new media and might just prove to be a real win for Pepsi.

Jones Sugar Free Root Beer

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks

Jones Sugar Free Root BeerI tell you, The Glucoholic has been waiting for this one. Since our earlier review of Jones Sugar Free Black Cherry Soda we’ve been “jonesing” for the opportunity to try the root beer. It was worth the wait. We could not find one thing we did not like about this root beer. It has very authentic taste, and does not suffer from the pervasive underuse of sweetener that other diet sodas exhibit. If you are a root beer lover you will enjoy this sugar free drink! We highly recommend finding a retailer and purchasing Jones Sugar Free Root Beer and seeing for yourself.

Just like the black cherry soda, there’s very little nutritional information to keep up with. The signature customer-contributed photographs take up more space on the label than the nutrition facts. There’s only 30mg of sodium in this one, and no caffeine. Splenda brand sweetener is used to give it its wonderfully sweet taste. Jones has hit another home run with this one. If they keep this up The Glucoholic will have to buy another refrigerator.

Hansen’s Diet Tangerine Green Tea Soda

Hansen’s Diet Tangerine Green Tea SodaWell it’s that time again. The time when The Glucoholic has to show his “fair and balanced” credentials and render a negative review. We don’t like doing it; but if we don’t, who will? In our constant efforts spanning the globe in search of great sugar free snacks, foods, and drinks we came across Hansen’s Diet Tangerine Green Tea Soda. The awesome can graphics impressed us, as did the nutritional information. We’re always hearing that green tea is the health drink equivalent of Blue Kryptonite, and this stuff is made with Splenda! What’s not to like?

Unfortunately, the taste. This stuff is harsh. Drinking it reminds you of your first impression of smokeless tobacco, only harsher. We’ve tasted some strong green teas before, and we were hoping that the tangerine would provide a pleasant distraction. Somehow it just seems to make it worse. If you are one of those people who loves green tea so much that you would still drink it if your only other option was to inherit a million dollars, then give it a shot. For the rest of you we humbly suggest finding another option.

Diet Dad’s Root Beer

Diet Dad’s Root BeerWe’ve done quite a few sugar free root beer reviews here at glucoholic.com. In general we’ve found that diet root beers outclass their diet soda cousins when it comes to authenticity of taste. In fact, Jones Sugar Free Black Cherry Soda is the only soda we can think of that comes close to approximating it’s non-diet competitors to date. We’ve got another fine sugar free root beer to tell you about today. It’s Diet Dad’s Root Beer and it’s great!

Dad’s has a classic sweet, syrupy taste that doesn’t try too hard and we loved it for that. Dad’s chose to sweeten their diet root beer with sucralose and acesulfame potassium - a wise choice. It would be hard to find this level of sweetness with other sweeteners. Our test bottle had that wonderful fluffiness to the foam that makes you want to drop some low sugar ice cream in to make a float. Diet Dad’s contains zero of everything except 35mg of sodium. Two thumbs up for a no frills classic root beer!

Ocean Spray Light Cran-Grape Juice

Ocean Spray Light Cran-Grape JuiceFor those of you really missing juices in your diets, we would like to suggest Ocean Spray Light Cran-Grape Juice. Cranberry juice is often criticized for its bitter taste, and the common answer from most providers is a juice mix. Ocean Spray really got it right with this combination. We highly recommend this juice to those who cannot tolerate the high carb count of most traditional juices, but would like the health benefits of drinking more juice.

Serving size is eight ounces, which includes only 40 calories. In each serving you will also find 30mg of potassium and 75mg of sodium. The juice is sweetened with Splenda and 10 grams of sugar. Given the many health benefits of cranberries, and this juice’s great taste, we think this a worthwhile compromise!
