Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks
I tell you, The Glucoholic has been waiting for this one. Since our earlier review of Jones Sugar Free Black Cherry Soda we’ve been “jonesing” for the opportunity to try the root beer. It was worth the wait. We could not find one thing we did not like about this root beer. It has very authentic taste, and does not suffer from the pervasive underuse of sweetener that other diet sodas exhibit. If you are a root beer lover you will enjoy this sugar free drink! We highly recommend finding a retailer and purchasing Jones Sugar Free Root Beer and seeing for yourself.
Just like the black cherry soda, there’s very little nutritional information to keep up with. The signature customer-contributed photographs take up more space on the label than the nutrition facts. There’s only 30mg of sodium in this one, and no caffeine. Splenda brand sweetener is used to give it its wonderfully sweet taste. Jones has hit another home run with this one. If they keep this up The Glucoholic will have to buy another refrigerator.

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks
Well it’s that time again. The time when The Glucoholic has to show his “fair and balanced” credentials and render a negative review. We don’t like doing it; but if we don’t, who will? In our constant efforts spanning the globe in search of great sugar free snacks, foods, and drinks we came across Hansen’s Diet Tangerine Green Tea Soda. The awesome can graphics impressed us, as did the nutritional information. We’re always hearing that green tea is the health drink equivalent of Blue Kryptonite, and this stuff is made with Splenda! What’s not to like?
Unfortunately, the taste. This stuff is harsh. Drinking it reminds you of your first impression of smokeless tobacco, only harsher. We’ve tasted some strong green teas before, and we were hoping that the tangerine would provide a pleasant distraction. Somehow it just seems to make it worse. If you are one of those people who loves green tea so much that you would still drink it if your only other option was to inherit a million dollars, then give it a shot. For the rest of you we humbly suggest finding another option.

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks
We’ve done quite a few sugar free root beer reviews here at glucoholic.com. In general we’ve found that diet root beers outclass their diet soda cousins when it comes to authenticity of taste. In fact, Jones Sugar Free Black Cherry Soda is the only soda we can think of that comes close to approximating it’s non-diet competitors to date. We’ve got another fine sugar free root beer to tell you about today. It’s Diet Dad’s Root Beer and it’s great!
Dad’s has a classic sweet, syrupy taste that doesn’t try too hard and we loved it for that. Dad’s chose to sweeten their diet root beer with sucralose and acesulfame potassium - a wise choice. It would be hard to find this level of sweetness with other sweeteners. Our test bottle had that wonderful fluffiness to the foam that makes you want to drop some low sugar ice cream in to make a float. Diet Dad’s contains zero of everything except 35mg of sodium. Two thumbs up for a no frills classic root beer!

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks
The first thing one notices about Boylan’s Diet Root Beer is the classic brown glass bottle. Raised letters and painted logos serve to remind the consumer that Boylan has been around for a while. Vintage bottles like these always add something to the experience of enjoying a root beer.
In the taste category we give Boylan a high score for its authentic root beer taste. We here at Glucoholic have always believed that root beer should have a little bite, not taste like an overly sweetened children’s cough syrup. This root beer has a sharp taste and is perfectly sweetened with sucralose. The first few sips almost hint of a slight aftertaste, like the mixture of sucralose is a little lean. By the end of the bottle it seems more like one of the other ingredients lingers to give that initial sensation. A pleasant surprise was that this eventually became one of the longest lingering root beer flavors of any root beer we’ve reviewed. We would say that it is certainly competitive with Stewart’s Diet Root Beer.

Low Carb Drinks, Sugar Free Drinks
Some time ago we reviewed Splenda Raspberry Flavor Accents. We’ve been looking forward to trying out the lemon flavor, and we were not disappointed. The lemon flavor tubes are identical in packaging and nutrition to the raspberry flavor accents. As such, we highly recommend these flavor accents for dressing up your teas or waters without adding any carbohydrates.
Like the raspberry flavor, we found that the lemon needs to be mixed at about 150 percent of the suggested amount for maximum sweetness and flavor. Some lemon drink mixes are bitter and sour, but these flavor accents are quite mild and pleasant.
