Low Carb Snacks, Sugar Free Snacks
It’s been a while since we’ve reviewed a product from the fine people at Murray, so we hit the local supermarket and perused the Murray shelf for a good candidate. We noted two things right away. First, the Murray shelf is getting bigger. It’s refreshing to see more and more sugar free and low carb products hitting the shelves. Second, it’s amazing the impact that effective product design and presentation are in creating permanent memories that influence consumers throughout there lives. It was this factor that immediately drew us to Murray Sugar Free Fudge Dipped Shortbread Cookies. The picture on the package alone screamed “this is going to be a great tasting cookie!” We were not to be disappointed. These cookies are great. The taste is barely distinguishable from the competitors’, and the only slight difference we could detect is that, for obvious reasons, the fudge is not as sweet. The cookies have a good, crisp snap, and the shortbread has an almost moist quality to it once you begin to chew it. We highly recommend these cookies.
Serving size is five cookies, and you will want to stay at or below that since there is some sugar alcohol in each serving. Murray Sugar Free Fudge Dipped Shortbread Cookies are also sweetened with Splenda, which is always a plus in our book. Each serving provides 80mg of sodium, 2 grams of protein, about 16 grams of digestible carbohydrate, and 150 calories. The only real complaint we would have is the 5 grams of saturated fat, but on the plus side each serving does contain 0 grams of cholesterol.

Low Carb Snacks, Sugar Free Snacks
In The Glucoholic’s less diabetic days he used to fancy the Hershey’s chocolate miniatures. And why not? They’ve been around forever and you can get a metric ton of them at your local shopping club. They always seem to pop up in every office you work in, and passing them by can be a real challenge. The Milk Chocolate, the Special Dark Chocolate, the Mr. Goodbar, the Krackel - they all call out to you. What’s a person to do?
Well, we might have a solution for you. Hershey’s Sugar Free Dark Chocolates are roughly the same form factor and are a fair facsimile of the Special Dark Chocolate miniature. Hershey has not reproduced all the original miniatures in a sugar free form, but we’re happy to start with the dark chocolate. The taste is comparable, and those who usually shy away from dark chocolate might want to give the sugar free version a try because the sugar free version seems to us to be slightly sweeter than the original Special Dark Chocolate Miniature, ironically.

Low Carb Snacks, Sugar Free Snacks
The late President Ronald Reagan was said to be fond of jelly beans. Maybe their wonderful sticky fruit flavor gave him the strength to tell Mr. Gorbachev to tear down that wall. Well now we can eat like Presidents without the worry of high blood glucose and tooth decay. Sugar Free Jelly Belly Jelly Beans are great sugar free snacks. Their packaging claims a forty percent reduction in calories over the traditional Jelly Belly jelly beans, but there’s no mention of the fact that they are every bit as delicious.
The jelly beans are actually somewhat smaller than the traditional jelly bean, but this was fine with us because it really gives you a chance to combine a lot of flavors without looking like a squirrel. Each bag contains an assortment of flavors including Buttered Popcorn, Cherry, Green Apple, Juicy Pear, Lemon, Licorice, Pineapple, Sizzling Cinnamon, Strawberry, and Tangerine. If you’ve always loved jelly beans like we have, then we give Sugar Free Jelly Belly Jelly Beans our highest recommendation.

Low Carb Snacks, Sugar Free Snacks
If making sugar free candy was an Olympic sport then Wrigley would certainly be a medal winner. We had the pleasure of trying out their Sugar Free LifeSavers Butter Toffee Hard Candy and were totally impressed. They come individually wrapped, and taste somewhat like Werther’s Originals, except slightly sweeter. The best way to describe the experience is “smooth”. These candies are thin and become quite slippery as they dissolve, so they might be better reserved to adults than children. Though there’s nothing flashy about Sugar Free LifeSavers Butter Toffee Hard Candy, these candies are a good, solid sugar free snack and worthy of the Wrigley LifeSavers brand name.
The serving size for Sugar Free LifeSavers Butter Toffee Hard Candy is five candies. Each serving contains only 45 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 95mg of sodium, 5mg of cholesterol, and about 7 grams of digestible carbohydrate in the form of sugar alcohols. All the usual warnings about consuming no more than the suggested serving size apply. Give these candies a try - we think you’ll appreciate their solid value!

Low Carb Snacks, Sugar Free Snacks
We are so grateful to the folks over at candyaddict.com for turning us on to Sugar Free Dove Chocolates. Their excellent review left us hungry to try one of the flavors ourselves. We’re glad to report that our experience with Sugar Free Dove Rich Dark Chocolates With Chocolate Creme was fantastic!
These sugar free snacks have a deep, rich chocolate taste. The crisp outer shell and slightly softer creme filling provide a perfect compliment to one another. The texture is creamy and the satisfaction seems to build as the flavors blend in your mouth to leave you with one of the most pleasant dark chocolate experiences you will ever have. These chocolates are also very filling. Their richness and lasting flavor kept us from needing more than two candies at a time, which is less than half the recommended serving size. We’re very happy to recommend these chocolates.
